CLEANING GRIME AND DIRT FROM YOUR COINS

The BEST ADVICE given on cleaning coins is:   DON'T !

BUT...If you have made a decision to clean your coins, and do not want to decrease their value, here are some tips to minimize the chances of damage, (but not guaranteed..).

Grime and dirt will over a period of time accumulate on your coins, but can often be removed without harming the coin by applying a layer of Vaseline to both surfaces of the coin with a piece of cotton or a Q-tip and  gently rubbing both surfaces clean with a very soft cloth.

Leaving a coin to soak in olive oil or a mild soapy water will often safely remove dirt or other substances adhering to a coin.

Rubbing alcohol or olive oil are non-abrasive cleaners and can both be used to clean coins. NEVER use Polishes or Silver Tarnish removers to clean coins as they are too strong.

We do not recommend using baking soda as a cleaning method to make a worn coin look new and shiny as it wll usually lower the value of the coin.
Make sure you ALWAYS rinse the coins with distilled water after cleaning. NEVER use tap water because it contains minerals which could create spots on the surface of a coin.  Always let your coins air dry and never rub a coin dry, as it could scratch the surface..
